When it comes to the Met Gala 2025, everyone expects a red carpet packed with stars, sequins, and statement-making looks. But, this year, some of fashion’s most iconic faces were noticeably absent.

Celebrities Who Skipped the 2025 Met Gala

Whether it was a quiet protest, long-standing feuds, or simply a bit of burnout, more than a few celebrities skipped the Met Gala this time around – and people definitely noticed.

Let’s explore why some of fashion’s regular MVPs sat this one out, what’s going on behind the scenes with Anna Wintour, and what it all means for the future of fashion's biggest night.

Celebrities Who Opted Out of the 2025 Met Gala

Naomi Campbell missing the Met Gala 2025 wasn’t just surprising – it raised eyebrows and kicked off a swirl of speculation. Known for her bold statements and fierce presence on the red carpet, Naomi is practically a Met Gala staple. This year? Nowhere in sight.

And it’s not just about skipping a party. Naomi and Anna Wintour reportedly had a very public falling out last year, and fans have been watching the frost settle ever since.

Naomi’s Last Met

While Campbell offered a gracious pre-event statement congratulating the organizers, her absence was quickly labeled by some as a quiet ban, only for those same outlets to hastily delete their claims. Hmm.

So, what’s the real story? It could be a power play; it could be politics; or it could be the calm before another storm in their famously tense relationship. Whatever it is, Naomi not being there spoke volumes.

Taylor Swift, Jack Schlossberg, and a New Wave of Met Gala Boycotts

Taylor Swift, usually front and center at these things with a squad and a theme-ready look, was another name missing from the invite list – or at least from the guest list. No red carpet; no Instagram post; nada.

While Swift didn’t make a public statement, some insiders speculate she opted out as a subtle nod to the event’s increasingly polarizing tone. Enter: Jack Schlossberg, grandson of JFK and sometime Vogue contributor, who didn’t mince words.

In a viral Instagram video, Schlossberg addressed Anna Wintour directly and said he was boycotting the Met Gala this year because of the global state of affairs and what he described as its tone-deafness. On X, he upped the drama, labeling it a “pathetic event for corporate sluts.” Wow.

His criticism might sound over-the-top coming from a Kennedy, but he’s not alone. Many have started to question whether the gala still represents innovation and artistry – or just exclusivity with a price tag.

When Even Fashion Insiders Feel "Over It"

It’s not just celebrities skipping the Met Gala anymore – even fashion insiders are starting to distance themselves. Commentator Dana Thomas put it bluntly: “I’m kind of over the whole thing.” And she’s not the only one feeling the fatigue.

Pre-gala buzz this year was far quieter than usual. Lauren Sherman, a respected fashion journalist, noted how muted the lead-up felt.

It could be the overwhelming pace of global news, but it also hints at a deeper shift – the kind that makes you wonder whether fashion’s biggest night is starting to lose its sparkle.

With ticket prices reportedly hitting $70,000, and the industry still grappling with inflation and changing consumer tastes, the event’s glitz is starting to feel a little... off-message.

André Leon Talley’s Legacy and the Wintour Rift That Won’t Fade

While the Met Gala’s theme this year celebrated Black designers and their impact on fashion – a much-needed spotlight – the event also stirred up memories of another major absence: the late André Leon Talley.

Talley, a former Vogue editor and longtime Wintour confidant, famously fell out with her before his death. His memoir, The Chiffon Trenches, didn’t hold back, describing her as cold and colonial.

Despite that, Wintour’s recent tribute to Talley in Vogue suggested some level of peace – or at least the fashion version of one.

Several of his flamboyant, custom-made outfits were featured in the gala’s accompanying exhibit. A fitting tribute but, for some, it felt like too little, too late. No amount of silk cloaks can fully smooth over decades of complicated relationships.

Is There a Met Gala Banned List?

As rumors swirl about why certain celebrities skipped the Met Gala or weren’t seen on the carpet, many fans online have speculated about a possible Met Gala banned list. While nothing has been officially confirmed (and likely never will be), it's not hard to believe that behind the velvet ropes and custom gowns lies a carefully managed, sometimes ruthless guest curation strategy.

Anna Wintour has long been known to hold the final say over the guest list – a list that isn't always about fashion credentials.

Past feuds, public drama, and even social media commentary have reportedly played a role in who makes the cut. Whether it's actual bans or just strategic exclusions, the lines are getting blurrier.

What the Met Gala 2025 No-Shows Really Tell Us

The Met Gala 2025 wasn’t short on drama – and not just the kind stitched into corsets or glittered across lapels. From long-standing personal feuds to modern-day protest statements, the growing list of celebrities who skipped the Met Gala speaks to more than just scheduling conflicts.

As the fashion world continues to reckon with issues of diversity, elitism, and cultural relevance, even fashion’s biggest night isn’t immune to critique.

Whether this year's absences were quiet rebellions, calculated moves, or genuine disengagements, they reveal a moment of change – and maybe even opportunity – for the event’s future. Will next year’s guest list be as glittering? Only time – and Anna – will tell.
