Disneyland Shuts Down a 30-Year Favorite With No Return Date in Sight

If dodging snakes, skeletons, and one extremely large boulder is part of your Disneyland routine, we have some bad news.

One of the park's most famous adventures is taking a break.

Indiana Jones Adventure closed in early September for refurbishment. 

And, while temporary ride closures are nothing unusual at Disneyland, this one comes with a sad little mystery.

Disney hasn't said when Indy will be back.

Disneyland's Indiana Jones Ride Closes Indefinitely

Indiana Jones Adventure officially closed on September 8th, as part of a Disneyland ride refurbishment in 2026.

Disney currently lists the Adventureland attraction as closed for refurbishment and asks visitors to check back for updates.

What Disney hasn't provided yet is an Indiana Jones ride reopening date.

That doesn't mean we're looking at a permanent or unusually lengthy closure. It just means Disney hasn't put a return date on the calendar yet.

But, for anyone with a Disneyland trip coming up, that's a pretty important distinction.

Indy Has Been Running From That Boulder for 30 Years

Indiana Jones Adventure first opened in 1995, making the attraction more than three decades old.

The ride sends people into the Temple of the Forbidden Eye aboard 12-person troop transports. 

Along the way, there are collapsing bridges, skeletons, snakes, fire, and, of course, that enormous rolling boulder.

In other words, there's quite a lot going on in there.

The Anaheim Disneyland Indiana Jones attraction has also received plenty of attention over the years, as Disney has maintained and restored its elaborate effects.

This Isn't Indy's First Tune-Up

Complicated theme park rides occasionally need more than a fresh coat of paint.

Indiana Jones Adventure combines moving vehicles, lighting, sound, mechanical effects, large sets, and plenty of other pieces that have to work together to sell the adventure.

This isn't the first time the attraction has temporarily gone dark for some attention.

The ride underwent another refurbishment in 2025, and Disney has continued restoring and updating individual elements since then.

So, while the current Disney ride maintenance timeline remains unclear, the refurbishment itself isn't particularly surprising.

Check Before You Go

If you're heading to California soon, Indiana Jones Adventure is one of the Disneyland attraction closures you'll want to check before you arrive.

Disney's own attraction page is probably the safest place to watch for changes since the company says reopening information will be posted when it becomes available.

For now, all we know is Indy is getting some attention behind those construction walls.

After 30 years of escaping snakes, collapsing temples, and that enormous boulder, we're reasonably confident he can handle a little maintenance.
