Amazon Prime Customers Could Get Up to $200 in New Settlement Payments

You may be getting up to $200 from Amazon soon. Here are the details on a recent revision to a massive settlement, including who is now eligible to receive a part of the pot.

Expansion of Amazon Payout on the Way

Amazon Prime customers who were part of a 2025 settlement may be getting more money in the next few weeks. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) confirmed on Thursday that Amazon will be required to "accelerate and expand payments" to eligible Prime customers as part of a settlement last year with the regulatory agency.

The initial lawsuit filed by the FTC was in 2023, accusing the giant e-commerce company of using "manipulative, coercive, or deceptive user-interface designs" to "trick" consumers into signing up for the Amazon Prime subscription services. The lawsuit also accused Amazon of making it too hard to cancel a Prime subscription.

As part of the settlement, Amazon was required to pay out $1.5 billion to customers. A recent news release from the FTC confirmed that Amazon has issued over $845 million in redress payments to eligible consumers as of this month.

However, the settlement terms have now changed, paving the way for more customers to qualify for the refund. Just this week, a federal court approved a new joint order between the FTC and Amazon that mandated that the refund payments increase from $51 to $200. The order also mandates that all future payments be distributed automatically.

As a result of the new terms, Amazon is now required to begin to issue redress payments to select customers. The refunds will be issued automatically. This means that consumers do not need to take action to receive the payments.

When Eligible Customers Should Expect the Amazon Payout

The FTC said that Amazon customers who were not included in the initial settlement payouts will be eligible for the automatic refunds beginning on October 1. The electronic payments will be distributed via Venmo or PayPal. Hard payments will come in check form in the mail.

Amazon will now begin issuing automatic redress payments to millions of additional customers who used between 11 and 20 Prime benefits during one year. The original order required Amazon to send refunds of up to $51 to customers who used fewer than 10 Prime benefits during one year.

The company will distribute additional refunds to customers who previously received payments from the initial settlement if the consumer-accepted payments do not hit the threshold of $1.5 billion by February 2027. This means that customers who already received a refund may still be eligible for more money.

These customers are eligible to receive an additional refund of $149, bringing the total amount over the two payments to $200. Eligible consumers should expect the supplemental payment distribution to begin by April 2027. Like the previous payments, this money will be distributed automatically.

Who is eligible for the Amazon payouts? There are three core requirements to determine eligibility for the refunds. Customers must be based in the U.S. to qualify. In addition, you must have signed up for a Prime account through the challenged enrollment flow or could not cancel the subscription between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025. Lastly, the payouts will apply to customers who used between 11 and 20 benefits in one year.
