Bigfoot Allegedly Paid His Taxes at This Connecticut Town Hall

A man from Rhode Island swore he saw Bigfoot rumbling through the woods in southern New England recently. While city officials have made it a joking matter, some researchers are taking the claim seriously.

Did a Sasquatch Really Emerge from the Woods in Connecticut?

Early in the morning hours of July 5, a Rhode Island man said that he saw a sasquatch scramble across a country road in Connecticut. Kevin Klimas of Westerly, Rhode Island, said that the Bigfoot took only two steps when crossing the road, "moving like on a mission."

Klimas posted his observations on the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO) website. In his report, Klimas noted that the creature was over eight feet tall and had "coarse, matted and greasy looking long brown hair covering every part of its body" and "a jaw line any pugilist would kill for."

Several local agencies have said they have not received any other reports of a similar creature in the region. However, some authorities are turning the Bigfoot sighting into a joke. Voluntown First Selectman Brian Muschiano joked that the male sasquatch was spotted in the office last week paying his taxes. In an email statement, Muschiano said that the creature ran out of the town hall, leaving behind a giant footprint in an athletic field, only to not be seen since.

While local officials found the sighting to be a laughing matter, the BFRO was taking the report seriously. The organization graded Kilmas' account as "Class A." This means that it was deemed to be a clear sighting "in circumstances where misinterpretation or misidentification of other animals can be ruled out with greater confidence."

BFRO investigator Matt Moneymaker wrote that the alleged sasquatch was probably attracted to this part of Connecticut when the Fourth of July fireworks were lit, sounding like gunshots that signaled that a gutted deer may be ready to eat nearby. According to Moneymaker, "There are some sasquatches in the vast forests of the Connecticut-Rhode Island border region." Moneymaker wrote that "They have been spotted on occasion by residents for many years."

Moneymaker is referring to the legend of the "Winsted Wildman," a story that dates back to 1895 when the Winsted Evening Citizen claimed that a man resembling a Bigfoot ran out of the bushes. The legend has lived on through time in this part of Litchfield County, with other sightings documented over the years.
