Starbucks' Black Cat Frappuccino Is Almost Too Cute to Drink
Pumpkin spice may rule the fall, but Starbucks is making room for something a little darker this Halloween.
A Black Cat Frappuccino is creeping onto the menu in October, bringing chocolate cake flavor, tiny cat ears, and enough spooky charm to make us reconsider our usual coffee order.
And that's not the only Halloween treat headed our way.
Meet the Black Cat Frappuccino
On October 22nd, select Starbucks locations will offer the Black Cat Frappuccino for a limited time. Despite its dark appearance, there's no coffee hiding underneath all that Halloween drama.
Instead, Starbucks will start with a chocolate cake-flavored Crème Frappuccino. Whipped cream goes on top, followed by a pair of chocolate ears that turn the whole thing into a drinkable black cat. It's essentially chocolate cake dressed up for Halloween.
Starbucks hasn't given the drink a departure date yet, so, if you’re hoping to sip one, you should probably make a move when it becomes available.
There's a Giant Halloween Cookie, Too
Naturally, our little black cat needs a snack. Starbucks is also introducing the Venti Black Night Cookie on October 22nd.
And "Venti" isn't just there because this is Starbucks. This is one seriously large cookie, and Starbucks intends it to be big enough to share.
The base will be black cocoa, with caramel fudge and caramelized white chocolate adding some extra sweetness. Of course, whether we actually share it is between us and the cookie. Like the Black Cat Frappuccino, the Venti Black Night Cookie will be available at select Starbucks for a limited time.
Black Cats Are Taking Over the Merch, Too
If drinking the Black Cat Frappuccino isn't enough feline energy for one coffee run, Starbucks has gone even further. The chain's Halloween merchandise started arriving at select stores on September 15th, and black cats have claimed quite a bit of the shelf space.
The $14.95 Bearista bag charm has been given a tiny black cat costume for Halloween. There's also a $16.95 cauldron mug and a $19.95 ceramic mug shaped like a pumpkin, with a little cat popping up to say hello. Then there's the $29.95 stainless steel cold cup. It's matte black, covered in understated cat imagery, and, because subtlety has left the building, it glows in the dark.
Halloween Just Got a Little Cuter
Between pumpkin spice everything and apple-flavored everything else, fall drinks tend to stay firmly in the orange-and-brown corner of the color wheel. A chocolate cake Frappuccino dressed like a black cat is a welcome little detour.
And, because the drink doesn't arrive until October 22nd, it’s landing just in time for those final days before Halloween, when we've stopped pretending we're going to save the candy for the trick-or-treaters. Grab the cat drink. Consider the giant cookie. And don't make eye contact with the glow-in-the-dark cup unless you're prepared to bring that home, too.
