Cavaliers surprisingly predicted to move All-Star guard in Magic trade
Despite a stellar 64-win season, the Cleveland Cavaliers aren't happy.
A second-round playoff exit to the Indiana Pacers has sparked tough questions about their roster.
Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey suggests one potential solution: trading Darius Garland to the Orlando Magic.
“Can (Donovan) Mitchell and Darius Garland, given how small they are, really survive on defense as a starting backcourt?” Bailey asked, highlighting the defensive concerns that have lingered during the Mitchell-Garland era in Cleveland.
Bailey imagined the following Magic package flowing to the Cavs for Garland:
Jalen Suggs, Jett Howard, and a top-five protected 2027 first-round pick.

Is this enough of a return for Garland? Getting Suggs, a tenacious defender, could shore up Cleveland’s playoff defense.
For Orlando, Garland could enhance an offense that sputtered last season. His ability to create shots for himself and others would complement Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, potentially making Orlando a more balanced contender. However, losing Suggs—a defensive anchor—and a protected first-round pick could sting, especially if Garland’s defensive struggles clash with Orlando’s elite defensive system.
For Cleveland, this trade would be about about playoff viability. Garland’s offensive brilliance is undeniable, but his defensive shortcomings alongside Mitchell have been exposed in high-stakes games. Suggs could address that weakness, though the Cavs would need to ensure their offense doesn’t regress too far without Garland’s creation.
The Magic, meanwhile, would be doubling down on offense at the expense of some defensive grit. Garland’s potential fit with Banchero and Wagner is tantalizing, but Orlando’s front office would have to weigh whether his defensive limitations and injury history are worth the cost of Suggs and future draft capital.
It’s a thought-provoking proposal that could reshape both franchises’ trajectories.
Ultimately, Cleveland might be able to get a bigger haul for Garland on the market, especially as there are not a ton of quality guards in free agency.
Garland has his flaws, but someone -- perhaps the Brooklyn Nets -- might be willing to overspend for his electric offense.
